CAROB: How can I use it at home as a chocolate substitute for recipes?

Can you answer Middy S’s question about Chocolate?:

Got an allergy to chocolate, and wondered how I can buy bulk carob to use like chocolate baking chips, and can I melt carob like chocolate to use in recipies that require the food item to be dipped in chocolate, I’d like to try dipping in carob instead.

Any resources for buying and cooking with carob as a chocolate substitute?

Chocolate Feedback: Carob powder is used whenever a recipe calls for chocolate or cocoa. To replace carob for cocoa, simply use the same amount of carob. To replace chocolate with carob, use approximately three tablespoons of carob powder for each square of chocolate that the recipe calls for.

Chocolate Feedback: accord to the health food store, you can melt carob chip–or you can make them in carob chip (chocolate chip) cookies

they taste similar to semi sweet chocolate, you may need to add sugar or sweetener
