I have heard that dark chocolate can be healthy. Is this true?

Answered By Annecy Carlyle

Yes. Studies show that eating approximately 1.6 ounces of dark chocolate daily can be beneficial to the health. Dark chocolate is high on cocoa content, which is loaded with cholesterol-battling antioxidants called flavonoid, which contains epicatechin. This keeps cholesterol from gathering in blood vessels therefore reduces blood clotting. It provides protection against high blood pressure, lung cancer and heart disease. It also improves the body's processing of sugar.

A small amount of dark chocolate is good, but consuming a big amount is not a good idea. Remember, chocolate has a lot of calories; you have to balance the extra calories by eating less of other things.
