Chocolate Covered Strawberries - What A TreatBy Chris Davies The buy-one-get-one-free offers are simply too great to miss. You may find yourself swimming in strawberries if youre not careful. What can you do with all of those strawberries? Why not have a go making chocolate covered strawberries? These are quite simple to make. I recently saw an advertisement for chocolate covered strawberries from a local chocolate factory. The price demanded by the store running the advert really shocked me - they were so expensive. So I decided to do a little price comparison and I discovered that it was not just this store, but the average cost of chocolate covered strawberries was expensive everywhere I could find them. This inspired me to do a little money-saving research. The expense of the treat makes it more appealing to me for some reason. This does not of course mean, that I want to run out and buy chocolate covered strawberries, but it means that I want to try and find a way to make them myself. I figured that I could use the fact that the actual strawberries were a good price. I also thought that I would have to get expensive cocoa blocks made just for melting and dipping. However, I have now found out that the best way to melt the chocolate is to use old-fashioned chocolate chips that can be purchased from your local grocery store. This makes it easier to think about making my own chocolate covered strawberries. The next piece of good news I came across is that I could use my microwave in the process, as this is a really easy way to melt the chocolate needed for dipping. Making chocolate covered strawberries is actually pretty easy, in theory. However, it is important to follow the instructions carefully so you do not scorch or burn the chocolate. Simply melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. It is important to use the defrost setting. Cooking the dip for your chocolate covered strawberries on high will scorch it. Wait until the dip is smooth. This usually takes two to three minutes on average. You can also use squares of dark or milk chocolate (whichever you prefer) instead of the chocolate chips. If you do not have a microwave, simply bring some water to boil on the hob, and sit a deepish bowl over the top, to place your chocolate in. Keep an eye on this and stir when necessary. There is a specific technique for dipping chocolate covered strawberries. This technique is quite simple. Just dip the berries into the mixture and shake the excess off as you withdraw it. Finally, give the chocolate covered strawberries a few swirls in a clockwise direction and set it on wax paper. The last step is to thoroughly enjoy!
